History
Our president, Kevin Francis, began his career in the ophthalmic industry in 1996 as a Phacoemulsification Specialist. In 2001, he founded Surgical Direct Inc with one phaco machine, one van, and his own personal garage as a storage facility. Kevin now has over 15 years of phaco experience. Not only has he been trained by the manufacturers, he even played a role in the development of the AMO Sovereign. Kevin has personally provided technical support and assisted with more than 10,000 cataract surgeries in his career.

The company's headquarters are in St. Louis, MO. Since the company was founded SDI has grown rapidly and now provides professional surgical support over a 5 state region, assisting in over 10,000 procedures each year, a number that continues to grow!

Surgical Direct is a privately owned company that focuses its entire operation around successfully serving facilities and surgeons with mobile ophthalmic needs. We pride ourselves in providing the best level of support to your facility or office that can be found anywhere. The reason Surgical Direct stands out from the competition is our expertly trained technicians. All Surgical Direct technicians complete an initial 90 day training program. They also attend annual continuing education classes and receive certifications in the following areas: OSHA, HIPPA, Blood-borne Pathogens, Aseptic technique, and OR protocol. Manufacturers such as Alcon, AMO, B&L, and Zeiss conduct current trend seminars as well as conduct training on all lenses and cataract equipment. We carry all necessary business insurance and all our technicians are Reptrax certified.
